INFANT ROOM

webpic_03.jpgOur Infant Room is for children 6 weeks to 16 months. There Is a caregiver for every four (4) infants in accordance with Michigan State licensing rule 400.510a(2). Each child will have an Activity Sheet; this will be completed by both the parent and teacher every day. The sheet will report diaper changes, nap times, feeding times and any general or specific instructions for that day, as well as a list of supplies needed. Each morning, we ask the parent to come in 5-10 minutes early in order to fill out the top half of the Activity Sheet. providing the caregiver with drop-off time, expected pick up time, when your child ate last, any medication that needs to be given and special instructions.

PHILOSOPHY

We believe that children are greatly impacted by their environment and that is why our educated caregivers will provide each child with a variety of activities that will help to stimulate their cognitive, emotional and physical development.

Language development is encouraged by our caregivers through reading aloud, singing songs and providing many opportunities to use new words while relating them to real objects/persons.

The children will be encouraged to explore the world around them while enhancing their sensory development. The children will be able to feel, touch and look at the different sizes, shapes, and colors and be aware of the sounds. Listening is promoted by speaking to each child in a positive manner and using repetition as well as toys that shake, rattle, beep and most importantly a lot of singing and music. Children are encouraged to repeat so as to reinforce skills. Vision is promoted by using a variety of stimulation. Including shadows, toys, books, pictures and playing peek-a-boo. Touch is encouraged through the caregivers cuddling and playing with the children. Smell is promoted through various objects in nature and food. Taste is promoted by introducing the child to a variety of foods as the parent sees fit.

Physical development is promoted through the use of walking toys, exer-saucers, floor mats, balls and many other activities and toys. The caregivers will assist each child with exercises, such as tummy-time, sitting independently, crawling and walking. Caregivers will encourage the child to explore his/her surroundings. Each child will develop fine and gross motor skills.

Emotional and Social development are encourage by positive attention from the caregivers to each child. Children will have an opportunity to interact with other children for socialization.
